A Handbook for Teachers Research in Teaching of Foreign Languages written by Dr. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui and published by S. N. Nangia A. P. H. Publishing Corporation in 2010 is really a good hand for English language teachers and scholars. Teaching of Foreign Language deals with eleven chapters. They are as follows with their objectives. Chapter one deals with Teaching Pronunciation . It plays the most significant role in the field of any language. Sometimes teachers ignore about the exact pronunciation of different words in teaching from the very beginning of schooling which leads the students in difficult to make exact pronunciation of word. This wrong pronunciation changes complete meanings of the words as they desires to express them to the other person. This chapter has been designed with a view of the difficulties of pronunciation. It includes the main preoccupation of methodologists regarding the teaching of pronunciation. Chapter Two deals with Applied Linguistics and Generative Grammar. It indicates that a central question in the application of linguistics to the teaching of foreign languages involves the conversions of a scientific grammar into a pedagogical grammar. It also indicates the impact of the fifties on language teaching was primarily on the form and only incidentally on the account of pedagogical grammars. Chapter Three constitutes ELES Achievements and Problems . English Experiment from 1963 to 1969 has been shown in the chapter. Foreign Language Teaching in Elementary Schools (FLES) is an important America term. It deals with the problems of the teaching of foreign language to the children of primary schools to the upward general school system. It also includes recent trends current developments and New-Teaching Materials (NTM). Chapter Four deals with Bilingualism and Language Teaching. Bilingualism has been defined as demonstrated ability to engage in communication via more than one language . It makes the discussion on the various aspects of bilingualism and language teaching like importance degrees and kinds contexts the processes and types of bilingualism function . Chapter Five deals with Testing Foreign Language Learning . It has included 3 skills (L S and R). It is about Aptitude Learning namely Listening Speaking and Reading (L S R).The chapter makes comprehensive description of language aptitude listening comprehension speaking skill and reading comprehension. It includes the concepts of reliability and validity of tests in language teaching. Chapter Six deals with Contrastive Analysis and Teaching Materials . It includes the discussion of an approach which would apply up to date linguistic principles to the development of foreign language text materials. Chapter Seven deals with Human Learning . It has figures of schematic Representation of Meaningful Learning and Retention. It studies the general nature of human learning defined and explained by four different learning theories which are classical behaviorism neobehaviorism cognitive learning theory and humanistic psychology. Chapter Eight deals with Introduction to Hispanic Literature. It describes the nature of literature clearly. Chapter Nine deals with The Social Function of Language . It examines more closely the importance of being aware of the varied social functions of language in determining the content of language learning. It includes various concepts like social norms dialects the medium of communication etc. it even describes the pedagogic significant of language variety. Chapter Ten deals with Personality and Language Learning . This chapter includes description of effective domain to understand human behavior. There is a positive relationship between personality and language learning. Multi linguistic person can make interaction better with the different people in the society and makes mobile smoothly in the society. Chapter Eleven deals with Language Teaching and Socio-cultural Context. This is the last chapter. It describes two important educational purposes and some aspects of essentials in cultural context. It includes various criteria for judging the socio-cultural aspects of instructional materials and course plans. Teaching Foreign Language is a good handbook for teachers. It will be helpful for those who have concern with foreign language teaching in lower lived as well as higher level of learning. The author achieved the gals with the book. I liked this book. The cauterization is good chapter one provides complete picture of phonemic level to make the pronunciation exactly and clearly. Italso constitutes phonemic problems and different techniques of correction and learning process whereas chapter two helps in the correction of slips mistakes false starts and a variety of non-grammatical behavior. It competent speakers ability to identify as such and correct them. It will even enable textbook writers to base their material on the most adequate description. Number of scholars and eminent in disciplines related to the foreign language teaching problems at lower and higher level have been invited to discuss the problems of neurophysiology bilingualism and child development is mentioned in chapter three even some consequences and concomitants of the Direct Method of Second Language Learning and the pains and pleasures of bilingualism are also studied in chapter four. Chapter five includes the concepts of reliability and validity of tests in language teaching. Language cannot keep existence in the vacuum and it always requires some sort of social environment. Each and every language has its own function in the society. So social linguistic function of language has been discussed in chapter nine. Personality and language learning is like a two sides of a same coin. Therefore to understand human behaviour chapter ten includes description of affective domain. And last but not the least chapter eleven deals with socio-cultural linguistic aspects of instructional material sand course plans. This book is helpful to language teachers or trainers as well as language learners. Though it has many advantages and positive aspect but it has little negative aspect also. There are no exercises and solutions after each chapter. And even bibliography or references is not given at end of eleven chapter. Even though this is really a good handbook for teachers and scholars for teaching or doing in teaching of foreign languages.
